To Be Nice. To Be Kind.

There is a difference between being nice and being kind.  I never really thought there was.  So many people use these two words interchangeably when really there is one aspect we do not realize separates them.

We are always told to be friends with nice people.  We are always told to be nice.  Being nice is a way of acting.  You put on that face when you meet someone new or need to talk to someone whom you do not really know.  But right after you speak with them you can completely change that face.  Being nice is a simple task.  It is a one man show that you are the star in for only the moments you want to be.  It is a facade that is shown when your parents tell you to go say hi to that really old relative and you complain but have to go anyway.  It is an action.

One who is kind, is one who puts on no act.  It is no show.  It is not a light switch that can be turned off and on over and over again.  It is a way of being.  It is who someone is.  That person that loves unconditionally.  That goes around school not caring who it is but out of the love in their hearts, is kind to them.  You cannot learn how to be kind.  It is a state of mind that you must find within yourself.   It is forgiving the ones that hurt you.  It is helping those who never even asked for help.  It is finding the love and sharing it with everyone including the deepest part of yourself. Kindness comes from the soul.

I have learned who is nice and who is kind in my life.  Those who tell me they are here for me but never show it, nice.  Those who tell me they are here and are truly by my side every moment, kind.

My mom, kind.  She is no act.  She is no face.  Her kindness seeps through her veins.  It is an aspect of life that is in her blood.  She never has to turn it on.  Constantly loving, giving and caring.  She does this with nothing needed in return.  Kindness is her essence.

We all can become more kind.  We must start finding it within ourselves to have no facade but to become one with it.  To become one within ourselves.  Kindness is how people get through the hardest times in life.  Be kinder to others.  Be kinder to yourself.

For those of you who have gotten me through hard times.  For those of you who are truly and purely kind.  Thank you.  You have taught me how to live.  You have lifted my soul.
